A Network of Latino-Serving Agencies “Opening the Doors to Shelter for All”

Encuentro Latino is creating a network of inter-linked Latino-serving domestic violence agencies called Enlace Latino.

What is the purpose of Enlace Latino?
The word enlace in Spanish means a link or connection.  The purpose of Enlace Latino is to increase links or connections between agencies that serve Latino clients. Enlace Latino’s ultimate goal is to increase access for Latino clients to shelters and other domestic violence services.  Enlace Latino accomplishes this through networking and capacity-building.

How do you define Latino-serving?
We use an inclusive definition of Latino-serving.  The members of Enlace Latino are of all types, from those agencies whose primary mission is to serve Latino clients, to those agencies who are just beginning to see Latino clients.  Most of our members are somewhere in between.
The most important criteria is that these members have committed themselves to increasing their capacity to serve Latino clients through participation in Enlace Latino.

What is the benefit of being a member?
Membership in Enlace Latino means participating in a partnership with other Latino-serving domestic violence agencies.

      • Networking conference calls:  Members are invited to participate in quarterly conference calls during which issues relevant to Latinos and domestic violence are discussed.  These calls may focus on policy, services, or other issues of relevance to the members.
      • Mentorship:  Membership offers opportunities to become involved in mentorship relationships between agencies with significant experience in serving Latinos and those in earlier stages.  Members may either serve as mentors or mentees.
      • Increased cross-cultural capability:  Members will have access to self-study tools and other capacity-building resources.
      • Recognition:  Become recognized as a Latino-serving agency and Enlace Latino member.
