Technical Assistance

Encuentro Latino provides technical assistance to domestic violence agencies to help them increase their capacity to serve Latino clients.  Technical assistance can take the form of individual phone consultations, assessments of readiness to serve Latino clients, or customized trainings.

Agencies that are interested in beginning the assessment process can complete the Evaluation Toolbox, available in late summer 2010.
Encuentro Latino also engages in technical assistance in the areas of leadership development and in increasing connections between Latino-serving agencies.

Who does Encuentro Latino serve?

Encuentro Latino’s technical assistance is available free of charge to any domestic violence organization.  If you have a technical assistance question or request, please feel free to call us at 1-888-743-7545 or email us at mail@latinodv.org.

You may also complete our technical assistance needs’ survey.  Once we receive your survey, we will follow up with you to discuss the results of the survey and how we can best help you.

Do you target certain states more intensively?

We have chosen to target the 16 states with the fastest growing Latino populations for more intensive outreach, as we feel that these states are most in need of assistance in developing services to meet the needs of Latino clients.

Those states are Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Delaware, Georgia, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, New Hampshire, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Nevada, North Carolina, Utah, and Virginia.

Evaluation Toolbox

The Evaluation Toolbox is a tool agencies can use to evaluate their current services to Latinos and learn more about best practices.
The Evaluation Toolbox is currently under development and is expected to be ready in late summer 2010.

Leadership Development

Encuentro Latino is focused on leadership development in two areas:
To promote leadership within the domestic violence movement, we will be recruiting Latinas who are currently in leadership positions or up-and-coming within state coalitions or domestic violence organizations to serve on the Advisory Board of Encuentro Latino.
To promote local leadership among survivors we are preparing leadership trainings for Latina survivors.

Enlace Latino

Encuentro Latino is creating a network of inter-linked Latino-serving domestic violence agencies called Enlace Latino.  The purpose of Enlace Latino is to increase links or connections between agencies that serve Latino clients.  Find more information on Enlace Latino.

Feedback from Past Trainings

From May 26, 2010, training with the Arkansas Coalition Against Domestic Violence:

“The training provided by Pat Acosta and Vanessa Berens of Encuentro Latino was truly exceptional!  From planning to conclusion of the workshop it was a very easy working relationship.  The workshop itself was engaging, interesting, and informational.  We are hopeful to be able to have them come back to Arkansas for further collaborations in the future.”
